MEKONG DELTA – WANDERER ON THE EDGE OF TIME
Here's the official track list of the album 'Wanderer on the edge of time':
01. Intro - Concert Guitar 02. Ouverture 03. A Certain Fool (Le Fou) - Movement 1 04. Interlude 1 05. The 5th Element (Le Bateleur) - Movement 2 06. Interlude 2 07. The Apocalypt - World In Shards (La Maison Dieu) - Movement 3 08. Interlude 3 - Concert Guitar 09. King With Broken Crown (Le Diable) - Movement 4 10. Intermezzo (Instrumental) - Movement 5 11. Interlude 4 12. Affection (L' Amoureux) - Movement 6 13. Interlude 5 14. Mistaken Truth (Le Hérétique) - Movement 7 15. Finale
The following libretto was written by Martin for Eliran Kantor (designer of the artwork) to inspire upon when creating the artwork. Please note that this was made especially for Eliran. It's not a real story!
A Certain Fool (Le Fou) - Movement 1 The violinist awakes in an unreal and lifeless scene and doesn't know what happened. The world has changed to a barren, hopeless place with burning ruins where should be cities. He is wondering about that view and goes on to find the truth about the past that changed the world into a living hell. Because we decided to continue this story ( "Dances....") and also try to connect each song to a high arcane of Tarot Cards, this 1st song is dedicated to the card "The Fool" and when I close my eyes and listen to the song I can see our undead dancer holding a dusty and worn out jester's hat in his hands, hits the dust off it while singing this song.
The 5th Element (Le Bateleur) - Movement 2 Our protagonist mets a strange guy on his travels. The man is standing on a hill and waving his arms in an enchant. This wizard is playing with the elements. He creates small worlds in his hands, watches them and let them disappear again. And while he is playing with these mights he is messing with it more and more, while he falls into a selfish overconfident frenzy. And in the end he becomes one with the energy of his own magic, bursts into flames and disappears with a knowing smile.
The Apocalypt - World In Shards (La Maison Dieu) - Movement 3 The violinist finds an old deserted newspaper archive in a library in the ruins of a big city and starts to put the puzzle together with the last newspapers he can find. And while he is reading the partially burned, partially full intact newspapers he sees the hidden signs of warning in every story he reads. He imagines all things that happened - global warming, war, terrorism, world in panic and all other things that predicted the preoccupied downfall of the human race. In horror and disbelief he shouts out his anger and frustration at the walls, but isn't able to help anymore. The world lies in shards of a mirror...
King With Broken Crown (Le Diable) - Movement 4 The further he travels, the darker the world becomes. Finally he reaches a gigantic fortress in which nobody is left alive. He steps over corpses of the former inhabitants and walks into a big hall that seems to be kind of a throne room. On that throne sits a huge man in black. The figure is hard to see with the bare eye. In his hand he holds an head that is wearing a crown. In the following conversation the figure on the throne reveals himself as Lucifer. And that he is very pleased with that overall situation. He encourages the violinist to believe that mankind has extinguished itself very well. That he is only a profiteer of the whole situation and not the perpetrater. And that the only true evil lurks in the hearts of men - just have a look around. And then he goes away, because he is very busy these times harvesting the last souls he can get...
Affection (L' Amoureux) - Movement 6 While he strolls aimless through the lands, searching for a healthy and unharmed human now, he found an old weathered house. A light is burning and inside he finds an old man with long grey hair, a long beard and over and over full of cobwebs... he seems to be sitting in an armchair for a very long time. And as the violinist is trying to talk with him he tells his story. But our hero notices soon, that it makes no difference to whom he would tell it. There is only one thing in the mind of the old man and this may be there for eternity. He is waiting for a sign of the girl he deeply feels for. But we know that she won't come back anymore. She won't hear his pledges and won't return to the old man, who is waiting for her since so many years. His undying love gave him unnatural long life and so it is almost impossible to tell if he is sitting there since 50 or 200 years. He is affected to this woman and even if these feelings may have been something good in the beginning...after all these years of waiting they turned him into an empty hull of madness...so the violinist leaves him alone again while the old man is going forth with the story without even noticing that there is no listener anymore.
Mistaken Truth (Le Hérétique) - Movement 7 In the end he finds the reason for the beginning of all this annihilation. He finds more evidence for religious motivated battles everywhere. He returns to the library searching for the proof. And finally finds the reoccured fight between many religions swelling over the last decades of the last recorded time. That the religion was used in a political way and that in the end the faith has turned against the politics, because in the end they couldn't stop the fanatics.
Offical report of the production progress:
The album is nearing completion. It has become clear that the story that began with one song (Shades of Doom), followed by half an album (Rondo for Rockgroup 'Dances of death') is continued as a full album on 'Wanderer on the edge of time'. More progressive than Mekong Delta has ever done, this album will definitely beat 'Dance of Death' as Mekong's finest. Martin's vocals are superb and the music on the album 'flows' like a stream. (I don't know how else to describe it). Mekong Delta is attempting to release the album in May, but there has been no confirmation of any date what so ever. Negotiations concerning distribution are still in progress... ------------------------------------------------------------- March 8th, 2010
First Impressions: I know many of you favor 'Dances of Death' as Mekong Delta's best work. Those of you who feel this way must prepare themselves. You probably want to reconsider your opinion after the new album is released. I'm privileged to have heard the instrumental version of 'Wanderer on the edge of time' and you be amazed and surprised. From beginning to end this music will take you completely off this world (personal opinion) even though I haven't heard the vocals yet, but this can only make this even better. Some things are typically Mekong Delta as we know them, but there are parts in which Mekong Delta plays like they have never done before. I wish I could share it with you, but you'll have to be patient. Hopefully Mekong Delta will release a track to be placed on the website.
------------------------------------------------------------- Feb. 3rd, 2010
The rough mix of 'Wanderer on the edge of time' is ready. Besides some small adjustments this will probably also the final mix. This means the album is done. How long it's going to take before the album is officially released, I can't say. Hopefully we will be able to give you a small preview long before that.
------------------------------------------------------------- Feb. 1st, 2010
I have been informed that most of the work on the new album is done. The final thing to do is mixing, but that's gonna take some time since the songs are pretty complex and full of instrumentation. I've had the opportinity to hear 2 pieces of the upcoming album and they blew me away. This will definitely be the best work Mekong Delta has done so far (personal opinion). By the end of this month the rough mix will (hopefully) be ready and Mekong Delta will decide which track will be used as a preview on the website. Be prepared... I really think this stuff is absolutely mindblowing!!!

The new album is build up like this at the moment, where 'Couplets' are songs with vocals and the 'Ritornelli' will be instrumental:
1. Ouverture, instrumental and build up like a "Sonata", the main theme will be used for the "Interludes ( Ritornelli ) ". 2. First Couplet, slow song with Concert guitar and Vocals as main instruments 3. First Interlude, fast, instrumental 4. Second Couplet, up tempo song with vocals and a lot of mauretanian influences 5. Second Interlude, mid tempo, instrumental 6. Third Couplet, aggressive high speed ( 225 bpm ) song with vocals 7. Third Interlude, atmospheric, Concert guitar, instrumental 8. Fourth Couplet, mid tempo Song with vocals and very interesting rhythm and harmonic structure 9. Couplet number five, fast instrumental, kind of "Intermezzo" 10. Fourth Interlude, fast and aggressive with some heavy drum things 11. Couplet number six, mid tempo and very harmonic, featuring vocals ( specially written for vocals ) 12. Interlude number five, mid tempo, instrumental 13. Couplet number seven, fast complicate track with vocals, this Couplet leads into 14. Finale, where parts of the Ouverture are used.
------------------------------------------------------------- Nov. 3rd, 2009
The last two weeks have been used to finish the vocals of the new album. Mekong Delta is very pleased and satisfied with Martin's work. The final stage of recording is adding some guitarwork to complete the songs. This will be done in the following 2-3 weeks. After this, Mekong Delta will make a rough mix for themselves to determine what to use, what to replace and what to leave as it is.
------------------------------------------------------------- Oct. 23Rd, 2009
All concert guitars have been recorded and starting October 3rd the vocals will be recorded. Martin is very well prepared and Mekong Delta hopes to have the vocals recorded in a time frame of 6 days. We'll keep you posted, of course!
------------------------------------------------------------- Sept. 27th, 2009
Mekong Delta has finished their pre-production. This means that the real recording of the new album can begin. Erik and Benedikt have started recording many of their final guitar parts and most of the bass is also available to them. Ralf will now concentrate on the concert guitar parts. The name for the new album is also established: Wanderer on the edge of time The 1st movement of the album will be a premiere by Mekong Delta as this track will use vocals and concert guitar as main instruments. They are confident that this album will again be worth it. A true Mekong Delta album!

------------------------------------------------------------- May 20th, 2009
Mekong Delta is very busy putting everything together to start pre-production of the new album. They went over the pieces they wanted to use and see whether they are playable. It seems they are, eventhough some are pretty tough. The new album will be approx. 50 minutes in length and will be a concept piece build up like a Rondo again. They are working on fitting it all together and see if the mood of the songs come out the way they planned to in the storyline.
------------------------------------------------------------- April 23rd, 2009
I have just been informed that Mekong Delta has finished composing the new album. This means that they will start rehearsing the material and start pre-production next week. That's all there is at the moment. No titles or anything have been announced.

The production of the upcoming album “the wanderer on the edge of time” is finished. I think it sounds pretty well. But if you’ll listen to, you need to have a lot of time if you like to discover every rhythm, harmony or melody in this monumental music.
